Laura Mercier Medium Deep Translucent Setting Powder Review

Laura Mercier Medium Deep Translucent Setting Powder Review

I have been after this Laura Mercier Translucent powder in Medium Deep the moment it came out in the US. I have literally been begging Laura (Yeah, we are on a first name basis haha!) to bring it out in the UK. Ever since I tried the Laura Mercier translucent powder. I was sold! Completely sold (read my review here)

Now, while I was waiting for the ‘chosen one’ i.e the setting powder to arrive, I read so many reviews about this powder. If I could roll my eyes a thousand times, I would. People were saying that it wasn’t bright enough blah blah blah, but come on guys it is not a BRIGHTENING powder, so if you put it on your under-eye concealer, it will not brighten the area! It should be used a setting powder to set your face.

But anyways, I ordered my medium-dark powder on Space NK and was eager to try it out.

With multiple major awards and counting, Laura Mercier’s “best in beauty”, cult-favorite bestseller is your go-to setting powder. Loose powder feels luxuriously dense in the jar, feels incredibly soft and silky-light on your skin. Pros love the super smooth application: goes on evenly, blends effortlessly, provides great wear. Sets makeup without adding weight or texture.

Creates a modern matte finish with a touch of sheer coverage. The translucent shade works on virtually all skin tones.

Like all Laura Mercier Setting Powders, it has a soft-focus effect that subtly blurs the look of fine lines and imperfections. Doesn’t settle into fine lines or pores and never looks cakey.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh girl! God was smiling down on me when Laura created this powder! It is the perfect setting powder for my face. I love the fact that it is so light but controls oils without looking cakey. I tried it with my NARS Luminous foundation which is ‘semi-matte’ aka not matte for me! This powder held this foundation in place all day. Wow! It is defo worth the money.

However, I do have to say that it runs a tad bit red. It has red undertone. I have golden undertones so I wasn’t sure if it would work for me but I pleasantly surprised, it was fine. What I did was to tap off the excess powder before applying and pressed it in my skin. It is translucent with a hint of colour.

Should you buy it? If you are a chocolate girl with oily skin then definitely. A little goes a long way with this powder so it will stay in your collection for a while. I use it every single time, I wear foundation now. It is my holy grail for keeping me nice and matte. Like I mentioned before, it is not a brightening powder so I wouldn’t advise you to use it to set your under eye concealer but for the rest of your face….go ‘head girl! If you are a caramel girl or have light skin tone, I would recommend trying the original translucent powder, as this may be a tad too dark or red for you.

Have you tried this Laura Mercier Powder? What did you think?

Hello dear please can you suggest a good powder to set the under eye concealer.
Can a medium dark skin also use the white translucent Laura mercies powder?
Do both of them have the same colour effect when applied on skin?

Hey hun, a good powder to set the under eye concealer is Sacha Cosmetics in Buttercup. I also have a blog post that lists all the setting powders that are great for medium to dark skin tones. I have a dark skin tone and I love using the white transcluscent Laura Mercier powder under my eyes, because it doesn’t crease and makes my concealer last all day. However, I don’t use alot. I just use a little then dust it off. I use the Medium Dark Laura Mercier for the rest of my face x

I’m keen on trying adding some sort of loose powder to my starter makeup collection but I’m a bit confused as to what to go for. I’ve read your review for the white translucent Laura mercier but I just don’t know which one to go for. I have very oily skin so looking for a powder that I can use to mattify my face (Thinking of trying the powder before foundation trick). What would your top recommendation be?

Hey hun, thanks for reading the blog 🙂
Yes, the powder before foundation trick is amazing for oily skin. I love the Laura Mercier powder because it is really fine and non cakey which is great for oily skin, because our skin type can get clogged pores quite easily. The good thing about this powder especially the Medium Deep powder is that you can use it before you apply foundation AND after foundation to keep your makeup from moving throughout the day.
It is a great powder for your collection. I hope this helps x
