Picking the right eyeshadow palette | The Best Eyeshadow Palettes for Dark Skin

If you have been reading this blog long enough, you will know that I am a creature of habit, and once I like something I use it to death! Me and eyeshadow palettes have not had the greatest relationship. I just didn’t know where to start when it came to eyeshadow palettes, well it was probably because I didnt know how to use and apply eyeshadows. Once I started to get the hang of applying eyeshadows I became more interested in eyeshadow palettes (see here for how I apply my eyeshadow). This year alone I have bought 3 eyeshadow palettes. That might not seem like a lot but for me, it takes me ages to pick the right eyeshadow palette because they are usually not cheap and I want to get the most out of the palette.

I hoard liquid lipsticks but not eyeshadow palettes. Weird but true. So I thought that it would be handy for me to share my tips on how I pick my palettes and the best eyeshadow palettes for dark skin

One of the key things I look at is the amount of matte shadows vrs shimmer shadows. I like palettes that have an equalish number of matte and shimmer eyeshadows. Some palettes have more shimmer shadows or have more matte shadows but as long as the palette has a good balance of both matte and shimmers then I am cool.

I personally love the browns, the golds and bronze coloured shadows, because they create beautiful neutral looks on all skin tones, and can be intensified for the glam look and toned down for the everyday neutral look. I also like the bold colours such as pinks, blue, bright golds and just any bold jewel toned. So I love eyeshadow palettes which have a mix of the neutral and bold colours. Just simply because if I feel like I have flexibility to jazz my eyeshadow look or tone it down if I wanted to.

Now let me tell you something, do not be deceived by how great an eyeshadow palette looks or how expensive it is. Cost doesn’t equal quality. I have had the ‘pleasure’ of trying out some shockingly bad shadows. To the point where you swatch the shadow and barely any shadow is on your finger. Trust me if it barely comes off when you touch it, you will struggle to use it with a brush.

These eyeshadow palettes are probably one of the hardest to get your hands on at the moment. At first I didnt understand the hype but when I finally got my hands on one, I understood why. They are really pigmented and there are so many colours in one palette, so the

Y’all know how much I love this brand especially the Nubian 2 palette so I am not going to go on about it. The pigmentation is unreal. They are so pigmented and you get alot of product in your palette for the money. They were designed for black women, so you can be happy that the shades will suit you. They are also really affordable.

Palettes: Nubian (Green packaging), Nubian 2 (yellow packaging), Masquerade (pink packaging) and the new Saharan (red packaging).

Queen of Hearts Eyeshadow Palette (Limited Edition)

I love Coloured Raine liquid lipsticks but I didn’t know much about their eyeshadows. I read so many good reviews about this eyeshadow palette so I decided to buy it. It was worth the wait. I love the berry shadows, which look great against my skintone. The matte brown and orange are perfect transition colours. You could create so many looks from this one palette. The shadows are really pigmented and are super easy to blend. This palette was sold out, but will be coming back in the Summer 2017, so if you want it, you should move quickly.

Modern Renaissance Palette

Oooooohhhhhhhhh this palette is amazing! It took me ages to finally take the plunge to buy this eyeshadow palette mainly because of the price. I can’t lie, it took me ages to try and justify the price to myself, but I am glad I bought it. I love the colours especially the pinks and berries. I love the fact that it has more mattes than shimmers because it balances out my other palettes which have more shimmer shadows than matte shadows. The formula of the shadows are amazing, they are super pigmented and creamy so they are super easy to blend out. Literally all you need to do is lightly touch your brush to the shadow to get a lot of product, so use with a light hand. I love the fact that it comes with a double ended brush and a mirror, especially because I don’t have many brushes.

Ahh I have such an obsession with nude shadow palettes, they’re just all too beautiful. I’m really loving plum and orange-toned shades right now, especially when paired with a nude lip! Beautiful blog too, would love it if you could stop by sometime to check mine out, any advice is appreciated! 🙂 xx
