Now, this is something I have just recently learnt and you know i have to share it with y’all.
We have been using MAC’s Fix + spray all wrong!!! What? I hear you cry or silently whisper as you read this. Yup, we have been using it wrong.
You know those moments when you have been singing a song and you think it says something and then when you see the lyrics, you’re like…..woah! I was totally wrong? Yup that is how I felt when I find out about this.
MAC Fix+ spray is not a setting spray…cue the gasps of horror! It is not supposed to make your makeup last all day. I remember using my Fix + spray, and still end up looking like an oil slick. I would get so frustrated because in my mind it is supposed to make my makeup last longer. Nope, that is not what the spray is for. It is a finishing spray, not a setting spray.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?
Finishing spray hydrates your skin after you apply your makeup. It is designed to take away that powdery, cakey look which can happen after all the baking and putting on your makeup. It adds a dewy finish to your face after you have applied your makeup.
Setting Spray keeps your makeup in place for a longer period of time. It helps to prevent your makeup from creasing, fading, or wearing away. It almost locks your makeup in place. It is like hairspray for your face.
HOW DO YOU USE IT?
FINISHING SPRAY: Skin Prep before you apply your makeup: some people like to use the finishing spray before they apply their foundation to hydrate their skin.
Finish your makeup: after you have applied your makeup, spray it around 30 cms from your face and you will find that your makeup looks more dewy and less cakey. This is really good if you are using matte or powder products.
SETTING SPRAY: Set your makeup: after you have applied your makeup, spray it in a ‘X’ or ‘T’ shape around 20-25 cms on your face, wait for it to dry and then go about your business!
When I realised what the MAC Fix+ spray was for, I found that it was effective for what it was supposed to do, which is to take away that cakey look. So when I have over-baked, and don’t worry we all do it….leaving that setting powder for 10…ok 15 mins at one time! This product helps to minimise the over-baked, overdone look!
If you are looking for something that holds your makeup in place, I recommend Urban Decay’s Setting spray. They have different types of setting sprays for different skin types.
I have started using Urban Decay’s Oil Control Setting Spray and I love it. I find my makeup lasts alot longer in the heat.
Did you think the Fix+ was a setting spray or was it just me?
