Ok, I am just going to come out and say it, I like samples. Yes, I am that person who if they are giving out free drinks at the train station will take one and circle back to get another with a different facial expression hoping that they won’t recognise me. Yes, I know I am being cheap because I can afford to buy it, but who doesn’t like free stuff?!!
When it comes to makeup products, I apply the same principle. Not only because it is free but because it allows me to test the products without me being committed to it. I find that this way I save money. I know you cannot do this for all products, but where you can please do. Get a sample especially with products such as foundations, primers, skin care. There is nothing worse….ok well there are things a lot worse, but there is nothing more annoying than when you buy a full sized bottle of high-end foundation and you realise that it does not work for your skin. If you cannot get a sample, try and get the travel sized or mini versions to try it out.
Here are the 6 products that I am sampling:
MUFE Foundation ULTRA HD FOUNDATION
I have heard good things about this foundation but what I am learning is not to buy makeup products based on hype even though the struggle is sooooo real! I decided to try a sample to see how this foundation is. I love my NARS foundation but it is semi matte, so my face gets oily during the day. This foundation is said to have a better lasting power than the NARS foundation because it is more matte, but blends as well as NARS. I guess I will try it and see if it is true.
Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer – SX13
I have been trying this product for highlighting my face specifically under my eyes and the bridge of my nose. It is incredibly creamy and a little goes a longgggggg way. However, the one thing that really bothers me…actually two things are the smell, and the price of a full sized product. It has a distinct perfume-y smell, which I don’t really like. Personally, I don’t really like using products on my face that has a distinct smell, so I will see if I can get over it. Secondly, the price…it is £32! I am still trying this product to see if it is worth me spending that much money on. It is a great product, but is it great enough for £32? I guess I will soon see.
Urban Decay de-slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray
I have never really used a setting spray for my makeup, but anything that makes my makeup last for longer I am willing to try. I am currently digging this dewy, glowy finish to my makeup, which is practically the opposite to a matte look, so I need something that will make my makeup stay. Let’s see if this works.
LA Girl Pro Conceal Concealer – Orange Corrector
I have used LA Girl concealers before so I am not new to their products. I love the price and the quality of the products. I want to start colour correcting my face before I apply my foundation. This just means applying a colour to cancel out the darkness of hyper-pigmentation and blemishes. For a woman with a dark skin tone, the colours suitable are peach and orange. I want to see if using this before my foundation makes a difference to the appearance of the dark areas particularly around my mouth.
Makeup Geek Foiled Eyeshadow Pan – In the Spotlight
Everyone is collecting Makeup Geek eyeshadows at the moment. I love gold eyeshadows and I received this eyeshadow as a free gift, so I will try this and get back to you guys about it.
CoverFX Custom Cover Drops
I noticed this product in Space NK and one of the really nice sales assistants explained to me that this product can be mixed with anything liquid to add coverage – moisturisers, serums, oils, primers, foundations and tinted moisturisers that are water, oil or silicone-based. I got a sample so that I can try and mix it with my moisturiser to create a tinted moisturiser for days when I am not feeling the whole glam look and I am after light coverage.
