Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place | Foundation Review

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place | Foundation Review

I have oily skin as you may or may not know, and I have been after a matte foundation for the longest time.

One morning I looked like a dry mess. A dry mess? Yes my oily skin was going through a weird dry phrase, and I didn’t know what to do about it. I was so used to dealing with excess oil. The little cream I put on had vanished and my face was dryyyyyyy. I wandered into Boots near my office (yes, I went on the tube looking like that!), looking for a moisturiser and vaseline to buy. One of the sales consultants came to me and asked if I wanted to try on some moisturiser. I would like to say that God heard my cries, but it was more likely that the woman saw my skin and thought ‘Lord! Look at her face, let me throw some cream on her face’.

I have never tried Estee lauder products because I associated it with old women. But I tried on their oil-free moisturiser and their double wear foundation.

‘The UK’s NO. 1 Foundation. 15-hour staying power. Flawless all day. This worry-free, long-wearing makeup stays fresh and looks natural through heat, humidity, nonstop activity. Won’t change colour, smudge or come off on clothes. Feels lightweight and comfortable. Now the flawless look you see in the morning is the look you keep all day.’

This foundation is amazing for oily skin. It is the definition of matte foundation. If you have oily skin you should definitely get a sample and check it out. It lasts for up to 12 hours and there is no need to reapply during the day. I wore this foundation when I was away on holiday in Portugal during 33 degrees weather and it lasted! I was so surprised. Usually my makeup dissolves into a hot mess in the heat but this foundation didn’t.

I don’t know if this foundation would work as well for people with dry or combination skin, just because of the matte finish. I have eczema around my mouth so I have dry patches on my face and this foundation clings to these dry patches in an unflattering way. It highlights the dryness, if that makes sense. I always apply extra moisturiser and some primer in that area before applying my foundation.

It has a medium to high coverage. I think it is actually quite high coverage. One layer is usually enough for me, with a little more in areas where I have blemishes. Some people wear two or three layers but that is too much for me. It depends on the look you are after. On the plus side because of the high coverage, it covers up blemishes, hyper pigmentation, and dark circles well. It blends well on application. It sets quite quickly so you have to blend quickly. A kabuki or buffing brush is good for this foundation.

It does not come with a pump!!!!! It annoys me. I tried to use my MAC pump but it didn’t work. Initially I wasted a lot of the product by pouring too much on the back of my hand, but now I pour a little, apply it to my face, pour a little and apply and so forth. This helps me to manage how much foundation I use.

I love this foundation. I love the matte finish and the fact that it actually lasts all day without the need for me to reapply. I also love the fact that it covers my blemishes and large pores. I wouldn’t really recommend it to women with dry skin just because it is matte, however if you still want to try it, don’t be afraid to ask for a sample.

This foundation comes in 42 shades! Yes, I counted 42 on the Estee Lauder website. 12 shades are in the ‘Medium-Deep’ category which is great for darker skin tones.

I use the shade Sandlewood (6W1) which initially seemed too light, but it works with my skin. They have recently introduced new shades for darker skin tones, which is great because now there is more variety.

This foundation retails for £30 in major of the large stores such as Boots, Debenhams, House of Fraser.

(Me trying to look cute! Wearing Estee Lauder foundation)

(Me on holiday after being in the sun all day! The foundation is still there! I did not even have to use powder or reapply!)

Have you tried this foundation? What did you think?
