Fabulous Fridays…why do I blog?

This world of blogging can be quite ‘weird’ one. I say ‘weird’ because I find this world different from what I am used to, fascinating as I have learnt so much about myself and others, tiring because it takes time, from finding what inspires me, to writing the post and then taking pictures. I kid you not, it takes me 4-6 hours for each post, and I try to post four times a week.

So why do I still blog? I have a career in a completely different line of work, I have a husband to support in all ways, I have a toddler who is getting more and more aware of her surroundings, and just other things that I enjoy doing. Don’t I have enough on my plate? Yup I do but there are some reasons that keep me blogging even until the wee hours of the morning!

Blogging is a hobby of mine. As you may or may not know, I have a full time job in an Investment Bank, and it is a pretty intense industry. Blogging is my escape route. I love my job but I needed something other than work to focus my energies on. Something that I really enjoy and am passionate about. Something that is my ‘personal’ thing that I can get stuck into. I am passionate about makeup and beauty, so that’s why I enjoy blogging. I think it is necessary to have that ‘special something’, that keeps you balanced emotionally and mentally, even through the different stages of life.

I guess that is why for me, I have no desire to do blogging full time. I might change my mind when the money starts rolling in, which it hasn’t by the way! I fund everything on the blog with my own money. For now, I really like the fact that it is a hobby, my escape mechanism. I feel it is the best way for me to provide truly honest reviews. My personal opinion is that when people start paying you to review their products, it may dilute your reviews. However, I have seen bloggers/youtubers still keep it 100% whether they are paid or not, so I salute them because it is not easy.

I enjoy makeup and beauty products. People ask me where do I get all these products that I talk about. To be honest, many of the products I review have been sitting in my makeup collection for a while, but I just didn’t know what to do with them! As I became more comfortable with makeup, I started to understand the purpose of each product in my collection, rather than just buying because of hype.

My blog is a place where I can share my thoughts, and my research on different products, because there might be someone out there who is in a similar situation that I was in. I am not an expert but I share what I do know. Best believe, I will try a product before I review it, so I am not basing the review on what other people are saying. If I haven’t tried it, I would let you know. I also have a monthly budget of how much I want to spend on beauty or makeup products, to ensure that I don’t spend too much unconsciously.

Seeing myself improve and hearing the feedback from people who read this blog motivates me even more. When I started blogging, I honestly did not have a clue about photography. I never thought about the effect of lighting on pictures, the different types of cameras and lens available, the best way to take flat-lay pictures, and how to make sure that all my pictures on social media have a similar vibe.

I do not see myself as a creative person whatsoever, so I just decided to incorporate things in my pictures that made me smile. I take all of the pictures for this blog myself with my iPhone, unless I say otherwise. It makes proud when people compliment my pictures and ask me if I took them because they look good! *huge toothy smile* Seeing myself improve and hearing positive feedback motivates me to continue blogging.

If I can use my voice to bring light into someone’s world, some positivity to someone’s life or just a smile, then that for me that is success. People have come to me and said that they love the positive vibes and the topics covered on this blog, which is great. I always make sure I write exactly how I speak, dry jokes and all, just to make it more personal. There are so many beauty blogs out there and I wanted to make my blog personal and more readable rather than a regurgitation of someone’s else reviews.

So there you have it. These are the reasons why I blog. I have got some exciting things in the pipeline for you guys so please don’t forget to subscribe.
