Suncream | Do you use it?

How many of you guys use suncream or skin products contain a sun protection factor above 20 on a daily basis? Put yo hands up!

How many of you think that women of colour do not need suncream because of all that melanin?

Now, let me tell you something, that is a lie. All races need protection from the sun’s harmful rays, including women of colour.

Yes, fine, women of colour do not burn as easily as fairer, paler skin tones and they naturally have higher SPF because of the melanin. However, their natural SPF is not enough to protect the skin from over exposure to the sun. Over-exposure from the sun can lead to wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation and even skin cancer.

I have to be honest here, I was not a fan of sun-creams before. I have tried various sun creams and looked like a blue ash cloud! I rubbed the products in as much as I could to try and make my skin absorb it, but that ashiness was still there! Forget it! You see the way my skin tone is set up, I cannot afford to look ashy especially on my face! Looking like the Joker from Batman after I applied my makeup! On top of that, they made my face look so oily so I had a weird dry/ashy/oily thing going on….on my face?! No thanks!

After doing some research, I realised the large amounts of zinc or titanium oxide in most suncreams cause that weird blue/grey effect, so I decided to look for a suncream that didn’t make me look like weird. I was recommended La Roche Posay Anthelios suncream.

Product Description:

‘Ensure very high lightweight protection for your normal to combination facial skin with the La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL SPF50+ Fluide Extreme.

If your skin is allergic or intolerant to the sun, extra protection is needed. This gentle and effective formulation ensures a very high, broad, and photostable UVA/UVB protection with an optimal SPF of 50+.

A new filter system comprised of a combination of Mexoryl® SX and XL alongside Senna Alata extract naturally protects the skin’s cells from damage. Made without fragrance and parabens, the emulsion is suitable for even the most sensitive of skin, is non-comedogenic, and is resistant to water.

This lightweight fluid is non-greasy with an almost imperceptible texture. It is exceptionally comfortable on the skin, with an easy glide formulation that ensures trouble-free application. The complexion feels unburdened and luminous, and it is protected from sunburn and cell damage’.

My thoughts:

I love this product. This sun cream doesn’t make my face ashy like most sun creams. I love the light-weight consistency of this product, and it works well for my skin. I apply this after I have cleansed and moisturised my face. It does not make me oily and is easily absorbed into my skin. I will definitely be re-purchasing this product again. If you are looking for a suncream to try, I would recommend you try a sample of this.

Do you use a suncream? What suncream do you use?
