Red lipstick is feminine. It screams confidence and is the epitome of class and sophistication. The great thing about red is that it suits ladies of all skin tones. The key to pulling off a red lip is picking the right shade. However, finding the right shade of red can be hard work and sometimes quite frustrating! There are so many different shades of red, and to be honest all I care about is which one suits my complexion!
It is safe to say that every woman knows about Mac’s Ruby Woo. It is the perfect Red (blue undertones) which compliments a variety of skin tones. It is the ‘go-to’ red for women of colour.
Dare I say, I think I have found a lipstick which is better that Ruby Woo! Cherry Blossom by Coloured Raine. It is more of a deeper blood red than Ruby Woo and more pigmented.
Note: I applied MAC’s Lipliner in Cherry before applying both lipsticks. I did this to add more definition to my lips and create a cupid’s bow.
Ruby Woo – MAC Cosmetics
Finish: Retro Matte (slightly different from MAC’s other Matte lipsticks)
Thoughts: I love this red. The texture of the lipstick is matte and applied smoothly onto my lips. I did apply two coats of the lipstick to get the pigmentation that I was after. My lips felt comfortable after the initial application. The lipstick lasted for hours on my lips, however towards the end of the day I had to do a quick reapplication.
Swatch on my hand:
Cherry Blossom – Coloured Raine
Finish: Matte (applies liquid then dries matte)
Thoughts: This lipstick is incredibly pigmented. One coat gives you that beautiful red. Once dried, it doesn’t budge! It is kiss and smudge proof. I did not experience any colour transfer with this lipstick. Once dried, this lipstick is drier on the lips than Ruby Woo, so prepping your lips beforehand is essential! This lipstick takes the meaning of ‘matte’ to another level!

Ruby Woo (Top) vrs Cherry Blossom (Bottom)
