10 ‘Need to Knows’ about Matte Liquid Lipsticks

Applies like a liquid gloss but dries matte.

These lipsticks are highly pigmented so you may only need one coat. If you want the colour to be more dramatic, add more coats. Be mindful that darker colours tend to be more pigmented than the lighter colours.

***

Smudge and Kiss – Proof! They are meant to last for hours, which is great for women on the go! They also can be drying on your lips so be sure to prep your lips before application.

***

Prep your lips before applying to avoid an uneven application and dry lips. Use a lip scrub or a soft toothbrush to exfoliate your lips prior to application. However, avoid applying an oil based lip moisturiser as this can result in a streaky application.

How do you apply yours? There are different ways to apply liquid lipsticks. Some people prefer to outline their lips to get their desired shape first with the lipstick applicator / a lip liner and then fill in the outline with the product. Others prefer to outline and fill in their bottom lip first with the product then move on to their top lip and cupid’s bow.

Apply quickly and accurately. These lipsticks dry really quickly so you have little time correct any errors once you apply the product.

***

Removing the lipstick – Oil based products remove the matte lipstick. The quickest way to remove is to apply Vaseline or another oil based product onto your lips and wipe the lipstick off.

***

Stay away from the fried foods or oil based dressing on your salad! To prevent the need to reapply the lipstick, avoid oil based food and products.

***

Use a concealer the same shade as your foundation to neaten or define the shape of your lips after application, especially with dark colours. Dark colours can highlight a sloppy application of the product.

***

If you have lips that don’t have a defined cupid’s bow, you can use a lip liner first to draw out your desired shape. It will act as a guideline when applying the liquid lipstick, but this is not necessary as the liquid lipsticks come with their own applicator.
